A counselor's ear,
a storyteller's heart
A novelist who spent thirty years as a counselor, Ceone Fenn writes the inner lives of ordinary people with rare tenderness and depth.
At the conclusion of a thirty-year counseling career, Ceone Fenn turned to writing — and brought three decades of listening with her. Her fiction lives in the interior places she came to know so well: the quiet courage of ordinary people, the long work of resilience, and the moral complexity of lives caught in circumstances they did not choose.
Her debut novel, To Reap the Finest Wheat (2015), is a work of historical fiction set on the vast Saskatchewan prairie of 1925. Her second, It Happened at Whisper Lake (2022), is contemporary women's fiction set in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Both were written to be read together and talked about — the kind of books a circle of friends carries into a long conversation. She is at work on a third.
Ceone's writing has been honored with the Wisconsin Writers' Association's Jade Ring Award for both essay and adult fiction. She lives in Minocqua, Wisconsin, with her husband, Robert.
